John Maher directed and musically supervised Let It Be on Broadway, on its three West End seasons, and numerous international tours. He has been the Musical Supervisor and Arranger of Thriller Live throughout its 11-year run in London and has supervised all its international tours. He was the Musical Supervisor and Arranger of the Marc Bolan musical 20th Century Boy, also writing and directing its 2019 production. Other directing credits include Jesus Christ Superstar; Departure Lounge; Hedwig And The Angry Inch; Unzipped – The Ultimate Package Musical; Everything’s F**ked, Angry Penguins; Up The Shop; Meet You At The Mona Lisa and Long Gone Lonesome Cowgirls. Other work as an MD includes Rent (Australia and London); Dancing In The Streets (West End, Europe); The Rocky Horror Show; Return To The Forbidden Planet; Oh! What A Night; Hedwig And The Angry Inch; The Next Big Thing; Departure Lounge; Grease; Jesus Christ Superstar; Can’t Smile Without You; What A Swell Party and the cult hit Dude, Where’s My Teddy?
John was the UK Musical Supervisor of Million Dollar Quartet on the West End (2011-12) and was one of the regular conductors of We Will Rock You in London for several years. He composed music for Steven Berkoff’s acclaimed production of Coriolanus (Australia). Other scores for Australia’s Bell Shakespeare Company included Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. John has worked with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Macy Gray, Peter Andre, Tommy Emmanuel and Rebel Wilson, amongst others. He plays guitar and keyboards and is musical director of the iconic rock group Dr Hook.
